Perifrasi fasali iniziali nella prosa greca piú antica (Erodoto) e loro comparazione indoeuropea

Abstract

Oggetto principale della presente tesi di laurea sono alcune particolari costruzioni sintattiche nella prosa di Erodoto. La tesi si divide in quattro capitoli. Il primo capitolo definisce i concetti fondamentali sui quali si è concentrata la ricerca, come per esempio, i concetti di «perifrasi», «fase», «fase iniziale» e «perifrasi iniziale». Il secondo capitolo passa in rassegna le strategie, soprattutto perifrastiche, adoperate dalle lingue indoeuropee di piú antica attestazione (sanscrito, ittito, greco, latino, con un’appendice sul romanzo) per esprimere la categoria grammaticale di fase iniziale. Il terzo capitolo esamina attraverso le attestazioni in lingua originale le perifrasi iniziali nelle Storie di Erodoto, in particolare le perifrasi formate dai verbi ἄρχομαι, ἐπιχειρέω, ἔρχομαι, μέλλω, ὁρμάομαι. Infine, il quarto e ultimo capitolo trae le conclusioni dal materiale esaminato, collocando i risultati nel piú ampio quadro della linguistica indoeuropea.

This dissertation mainly concerns some peculiar syntactic constructions in the prose of Herodotus. It is divided into four chapters. The first chapter defines the fundamental concepts upon which the research is based, such as “periphrasis”, “phase”, “initial phase” and “initial periphrasis”. The second chapter examines periphrastic constructions expressing the grammatical category of the initial phase in the oldest-attested Indo-European languages (Sanskrit, Hittite, Greek, Latin with an appendix on Romance languages). The third chapter handles initial periphrases in the Histories of Herodotus, reviewing and translating attestations of the ones which are formed by the Greek verbs: ἄρχομαι, ἐπιχειρέω, ἔρχομαι, μέλλω, ὁρμάομαι. Finally, the fourth chapter draws conclusions based on the examined constructions, situating the results within the broader framework of Indo-European studies.
