Il 'violino di Auschwitz'. Un caso di studio su musica e memoria della Shoah (2014-2023)

Abstract

Obiettivo di questa tesi è indagare la funzione commemorativa attuale della musica in relazione alla memoria della Shoah, in Italia. La prospettiva che mi ha permesso di affrontare la questione è la piccola memoria, oggi circolante in Italia dal 2014, di un "violino di Auschwitz" attribuito a Eva Maria Levy, ebrea di origini veronesi deportata al campo di Auschwitz Birkenau nel 1943 e non sopravvissuta. Superata una prima parte introduttiva di indagine archivistica sulla vicenda, il lavoro tenta di decostruire i principali dispositivi retorici impiegati nell'uso pubblico del violino, in particolar modo soffermandosi sul ruolo della musica come medium di trasmissione e rappresentazione di quella memoria.

The aim of this thesis is to explore the commemorative function of music in relation to Holocaust memory, in Italy. The perspective that allowed me to face the question is the little memory, today circulating in Italy from 2014, of a "violin of Auschwitz" attributed to Eva Maria Levy, Jewish of Veronese origins deported to Auschwitz Birkenau camp in 1943 and not survived. After a first introdoctury part dedicated to archival investigation, the work aims to deconstruct main rethorical devices employed in the public use of the violin, particularly dwelling on the role of music as a medium of transmission and representation of that memory.
