Le funzioni esecutive e le competenze matematiche nei Disturbi dello Spettro Autistico

Abstract

L’origine di questo lavoro è dovuta all’adesione allo stage “Il controllo inibitorio nello sviluppo tipico e nell’autismo”, volto a comprendere le specificità del profilo esecutivo degli individui con autismo e come questo possa influenzare le competenze e le prestazioni in ambito matematico. Nel primo capitolo di questo elaborato sono stati descritti i Disturbi dello Spettro Autistico, caratterizzati da grande eterogeneità nel quadro sintomatologico e nel funzionamento personale, facendo riferimento anche alle teorie interpretative dei disturbi. Nel secondo capitolo viene affrontato il tema delle funzioni esecutive, delle quali viene tracciato lo sviluppo tipico, facendo infine riferimento al profilo esecutivo presente nell’ASD, anch’esso molto eterogeneo. Le funzioni esecutive e le competenze relative ad aree specifiche della matematica costituiscono l’argomento trattato nel terzo capitolo, dove viene discussa l’influenza della memoria di lavoro e del controllo inibitorio in queste abilità nello sviluppo tipico e nell’autismo. Nel quarto e ultimo capitolo viene presentato lo studio relativo allo stage, che ha previsto l’indagine dei contributi forniti dalla memoria di lavoro e dal controllo inibitorio in specifiche abilità matematiche, cercando inoltre di comprendere se vi fossero delle differenze in termini di prestazione tra il campione costituito da soggetti con autismo e il campione a sviluppo tipico. Vengono, infine, presentati i risultati dello studio e i limiti dello stesso.

The origin of this work is due to joining the workshop "Inhibitory control in typical development and in autism", aimed at understanding the specifics of the executive profile of individuals with autism and how this can influence skills and performance in mathematics. The second chapter deals with executive functions, the typical development of which is outlined, finally referring to the executive profile present in ASD, which is also very heterogeneous. Executive functions and skills relating to specific areas of mathematics are the subject of the third chapter, where the influence of working memory and inhibitory control in these abilities in typical development and in autism is discussed. In the fourth and final chapter, the stage study is presented, which involved investigating the contributions made by working memory and inhibitory control in specific mathematical skills, as well as trying to understand whether there were any differences in performance between the sample of subjects with autism and the typical development sample. Finally, the results of the study and its limitations are presented.
