Verso l'Alto ma non verso il Nord. Esperimenti mentali e mondi possibili

Abstract

Benché gli esperimenti mentali percorrano l’intera storia dall’antichità ai nostri giorni non ne esiste un’unica definizione. Questa tesi si propone si analizzare alcuni di questi “dispositivi dell’immaginazione” a livello narratologico utilizzando la teoria dei mondi possibili finzionali di Doležel e la teoria dell’effetto dello straniamento di Šklovskij come modello interpretativo. Si evidenzia come alcuni esperimenti mentali possano esser considerati testi narrativi e, viceversa, come alcuni testi narrativi possano essere considerati esperimenti mentali.

Although thought experiments run throughout history from ancient times to the present day, there is no single definition. This thesis aims to analyze some of these "devices of the imagination" at a narratological level using Dolezel's theory of fictional possible worlds and Sklovskii's theory of the effect of estrangement as an interpretative model. It highlights how some thought experiments can be considered narrative texts and, vice versa, how some narrative texts can be considered thought experiments.
