Mitologia allegorica. Il II libro delle Mythologiae di Fabio Planciade Fulgenzio.

Abstract

L’elaborato consiste nella traduzione commentata del secondo libro delle Mythologiae di Fulgenzio, con un'introduzione sulla tradizione manoscritta del testo e sulla lingua dell'autore. Fulgenzio nel secondo libro presenta una selezione di sedici miti classici, che vengono da lui brevemente riassunti e poi interpretati in chiave allegorica, alla luce della sua cultura cristiana. Fulgenzio visse probabilmente nel VI secolo d. C. in Africa e il suo latino porta i segni del progressivo disgregarsi della lingua classica, come viene messo in luce dal commento e dall’introduzione. L’introduzione inoltre descrive brevemente il lavoro dei principali studiosi che si sono occupati di collazionare e studiare i manoscritti che riportano il testo, in particolare Helm, Jungmann e Venuti.

The paper consists of an annotated translation of the second book of the Mythologiae of Fulgentius, with an introduction on the manuscript tradition of the text and the author's language. In the second book, Fulgentius presents a selection of sixteen classical myths, which are briefly summarised by him and then interpreted allegorically in the light of his culture. Fulgentius probably lived in the 6th century A.D. in Africa, and his Latin bears the marks of the gradual disintegration of the classical language, as the commentary and the introduction highlight. The introduction also describes the work of the main scholars who have been involved in collating and studying the manuscripts bearing the text, in particular Helm, Jungmann and Venuti.
