Emblemi di Vanitas nelle tombe del Cimitero Monumentale di Staglieno

Abstract

L'elaborato consiste in uno studio sull'argomento iconografico e iconologico della "Vanitas": la sua origine la sua storia e i suoi emblemi diffusi nel corso dei secoli nella storia dell'arte. L'approfondimento relativo agli attributi di Vanitas si concentra su uno dei siti artistici più importanti della storia locale genovese: il Cimitero Monumentale di Staglieno. Dopo un focus sulla storia del Cimitero, si approfondisce la presenza del tema Vanitas nella varie tombe del Cimitero; si studiano e si ricercano gli attributi relativi al tema e come questi si sono trasformati nel corso degli anni e delle epoche storiche-artistiche. A seguito di una ricerca visiva e fotografica sono stati ritrovati diversi emblemi che persistono ancora nell'Ottocento e nel Novecento come teschi, clessidre e fiaccole capovolte e candele che richiamano il concetto del "memento mori".

The work consists of a study on the iconographic and iconological topic of "Vanitas": its origin, its history and its emblems spread over the centuries in the history of art. The deepening of the attributes of Vanitas focuses on one of the most important artistic sites in the local history of Genoa: the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno. After a focus on the history of the Cemetery, the presence of the theme Vanitas in the various tombs of the Cemetery is deepened; we study and research the attributes related to the theme and how these have changed over the years and historical-artistic eras. Following a visual and photographic research, several emblems were found that still persist in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as skulls, hourglasses, upside-down torches and candles that recall the concept of "memento mori".
