La dittatura argentina da un punto di vista internazionale: "Il Caso del Buenos Aires Herald"

Abstract

La presente tesi analizza il ruolo significativo che ebbe l’ultimo periodico inglese presente in Argentina, il Buenos Aires Herald, ripercorrendo la sua storia a partire dalla sua fondazione avvenuta nel 1876 fino alla chiusura definitiva nel 2017. In particolare, la ricerca di studio considera l'audacia e il coraggio del periodico inglese durante gli anni dell’ultima dittatura civico-militare per essere stato l’unico giornale a denunciare le scomparse e le violazioni dei Diritti Umani, diventando il punto di riferimento dei famigliari delle persone scomparse. Difatti, è importante evidenziare che il Buenos Aires Herald fu uno dei pochissimi mezzi grafici che iniziò a denunciare, già nel maggio del 1976, le violazioni ai Diritti Umani commessi dall’ultima Giunta militare (1976-1983) in mezzo al silenzio generale dei grandi esponenti della stampa locale.

This thesis analyses the significant role played by the last English newspaper in Argentina, the Buenos Aires Herald, tracing its history from its founding in 1876 until the final closure of 2017. In particular, the study considers the boldness and courage of the English newspaper during the years of the last civic-military dictatorship for having been the only newspaper to denounce the disappearances and Human Rights violations, becoming the point of reference for the families of missing people. In fact, it is important to point out that the Buenos Aires Herald was one of the very few graphic means that began to denounce, as early as May 1976, the Human Rights violations committed by the military government amid the general silence of the great exponents of the local press.
