TRA I PAESAGGI DELL’ACQUA. Un progetto di rigenerazione per la Vallata del torrente Gerenzone, Lecco

Abstract

Un processo progettuale spinto dal bisogno già manifestato in passato di dare un volto nuovo alla città di Lecco, o per meglio dire rigenerato, costruito sulla valorizzazione di un vasto e quanto mai stratificato palinsesto storico, umano, culturale e naturale. Il torrente Gerenzone, ha subito un processo di “perdita”, dovuto principalmente alla progressiva e storicizzata urbanizzazione, che ne ha saturato le sponde, composte da un ricco sistema di spazi dell’abitare e del lavoro, che oggi a fatica si distinguono. Sul Gerenzone, inoltre, lo sviluppo vorticoso dell’industria del ferro, ne ha sfruttato le acque come forza motrice, fino ai primi anni Sessanta del XX secolo, facendo del corso d'acqua, lo sfogo per i liquidi ed i fanghi dei vari processi produttivi, causando in passato un grado elevato di inquinamento. Un torrente totalmente privato del suo valore ecologico, annullato nelle sue componenti viventi, che torna oggi dopo decenni di grande contrazione dell’industria, a porre nuove domande. Un torrente che ricerca un nuovo ruolo dentro la città, sedimento di storia e di cultura, ma anche elemento vivo e complesso che connette la montagna al lago. Un progetto trasversale, di connessioni e di proposte puntuali fondate sull’idea che la qualità dello spazio pubblico, la fruibilità delle risorse naturali, la promozione dei caratteri identitari dei luoghi, siano obbiettivi trasversali ed inderogabili per costruire risposte concrete e sostenibili. Agire sui paesaggi culturali contemporanei significa, in primo luogo, costruire un processo di presa di coscienza del territorio con le comunità che li abitano quotidianamente, alle quali bisogna garantire la possibilità di poterli abitare anche nel futuro. Restare ad abitare nei centri storici, nei borghi e nei paesi di chi ci ha preceduti è in primo luogo un diritto da garantire, in questo il ruolo di chi progetta il paesaggio assume grande valore strategico e di responsabilità.

A design process driven by the need already manifested in the past to give a new face to the city of Lecco, or rather regenerated, built on the enhancement of a vast and highly stratified historical, human, cultural and natural palimpsest. The Gerenzone river, has undergone a process of "loss," mainly due to the progressive and historicized urbanization, which has saturated its banks, composed of a rich system of living and working spaces, which today hardly stand out. On the Gerenzone, moreover, the whirling development of the iron industry, exploited its waters as a driving force, until the early 1960s, making the watercourse, the outlet for the liquids and sludge of the various production processes, causing in the past a high degree of pollution. A stream totally deprived of its ecological value, nullified in its living components, which returns today after decades of great industry contraction, to pose new questions. A stream that seeks a new role within the city, a sediment of history and culture, but also a living and complex element that connects the mountain to the lake. A transversal project, of connections and punctual proposals based on the idea that the quality of public space, the usability of natural resources, and the promotion of the identity traits of places, are transversal and inescapable objectives to build concrete and sustainable responses. Acting on contemporary cultural landscapes means, first and foremost, building a process of awareness of the territory with the communities that inhabit them on a daily basis, to whom we must guarantee the possibility of being able to inhabit them in the future as well. Staying to live in the historic centers, villages and towns of those who came before us is first and foremost a right to be guaranteed; in this the role of landscape designers takes on great strategic value and responsibility.
