The thesis was carried out in collaboration with the company Ve.Cam Srl, leader in earthquake protection systems.
The aim of the thesis was the structural analysis and the study with finite element method of the behavior of a metallic friction pendulum damper. These devices are inserted in the supporting columns inside the buildings and must be able to reduce the stresses caused by the seismic actions transmitted to the structure.
An “advanced” friction pendulum was designed, characterized by the introduction of Belleville springs to increase the damping of the vertical action of the earthquake.
Several springs installations were analyzed that could support both the weight of the building and the earthquake.
Finally, the behavior of the device to the seismic actions recorded in Liguria was verified, in particular to the maximum vertical accelerations of the ground.
