Genova addio! Inchiesta sulla fuga degli artisti.

Abstract

La presente tesi analizza il rapporto tra produzione musicale, territorio e mobilità professionale nel contesto della scena musicale genovese contemporanea. Negli ultimi anni Genova ha dimostrato una significativa capacità di generare artisti di rilievo nazionale, in particolare nell’ambito della musica urbana. Tuttavia, molti di questi artisti tendono a trasferirsi verso altri centri culturali, soprattutto Milano, per sviluppare la propria carriera professionale.

A partire da questa osservazione, la ricerca indaga le cause strutturali, culturali e territoriali che rendono difficile la costruzione di una scena musicale stabile e autosufficiente nel contesto genovese. Il lavoro combina tre livelli di analisi: una ricostruzione storica dell’evoluzione della musica genovese dal Novecento a oggi; un’analisi del territorio urbano e delle infrastrutture culturali disponibili; e una ricerca empirica basata su interviste qualitative ad artisti e operatori del settore attivi nella scena locale.

L’analisi evidenzia come Genova rappresenti un contesto creativo fertile ma caratterizzato da limiti infrastrutturali, carenza di spazi dedicati alla musica live e debolezza delle reti professionali. In questo quadro, la forte centralizzazione dell’industria musicale italiana a Milano contribuisce a rafforzare i processi di mobilità degli artisti.

Attraverso l’integrazione tra analisi teorica, indagine empirica e osservazione partecipante, la tesi propone una lettura della mobilità artistica come fenomeno strutturale legato all’organizzazione delle industrie culturali contemporanee e alle specificità del contesto territoriale genovese.

This thesis investigates the relationship between musical production, territory and professional mobility within the contemporary music scene of Genoa. In recent years, the city has demonstrated a significant capacity to generate nationally recognized artists, particularly within the urban music landscape. Nevertheless, many of these artists tend to relocate to other cultural centers—most notably Milan—in order to pursue professional opportunities.

Starting from this observation, the research examines the structural, cultural and territorial factors that hinder the development of a stable and self-sustaining music scene in Genoa. The study combines three levels of analysis: a historical reconstruction of Genoese music from the twentieth century to the present; an examination of the urban territory and the available cultural infrastructures; and an empirical investigation based on qualitative interviews with artists and professionals active within the local music sector.

The analysis highlights how Genoa represents a fertile creative environment while simultaneously showing infrastructural limitations, a shortage of live music venues and weak professional networks. Within this framework, the strong centralization of the Italian music industry in Milan reinforces processes of artistic mobility.

By integrating theoretical analysis, empirical research and participant observation, the thesis interprets artistic mobility as a structural phenomenon linked to the organization of contemporary cultural industries and to the specific characteristics of the Genoese territorial context.
