Applicazione dell'archeoentomologia funeraria ad un ipogeo del centro Italia (Pieve di San Cristoforo in Pian di Marte)

Abstract

La presente tesi si pone l’obbiettivo di illustrare e descrivere l’entomofauna proveniente dal sito della Pieve di San Cristoforo in Pian di Marte (PG). Lo studio e l’interpretazione del dato entomologico mirano alla comprensione delle pratiche funerarie attuate, come ad esempio l’esposizione delle salme, la presenza di casse lignee o la stagione del decesso, e dei principali fenomeni tanatologici, quali scheletrizzazione ed eventuale formazione di muffe. Attraverso l’osservazione e l’identificazione dei campioni, è stato possibile stilare un elenco delle specie di insetti presenti nell’area tra il 1700 e la prima metà del 1800, di descrivere in maniera indiretta la tipologia di habitat adiacente alla Pieve di San Cristoforo e di comprendere alcune dinamiche di rituali funerari. Il dato entomologico si va a integrare con le informazioni provenienti da altre discipline, contribuendo alla costruzione di uno studio multidisciplinare del sito.

This thesis aims to illustrate and describe the entomofauna found at the site of the parish church of San Cristoforo in Pian di Marte (Perugia). The study and interpretation of the entomological data aim to understand the funeral practices carried out, such as the display of corpses, the presence of wooden coffins or the season of death, and the main thanatological phenomena, such as skeletonisation and possible mould formation. Through the observation and identification of samples, it has been possible to compile a list of insect species present in the area between the XVII and the first half of the XVIII century, to indirectly describe the type of habitat adjacent to the parish church di San Cristoforo and to understand some of the dynamics of funeral rituals. The entomological data is integrated with other data from other disciplines, contributing to the development of a multidisciplinary study of the site.
