IL DESTINO DELL'ANIMA NELLA "THEOLOGIA PLATONICA" DI MARSILIO FICINO

Abstract

La tesi si pone l’obiettivo di illustrare il significato che assume il termine religione nel pensiero di Marsilio Ficino ed in particolare nella sua opera più importante la Teologia Platonica. Nell’elaborato vengono proposte le diverse risemantizzazioni che il termine religione ha assunto nella storia del pensiero occidentale ripercorrendo le varie tappe costituite dalle opere di Cicerone, Lattanzio, Agostino, Niccolò Cusano fino a giunge a Marsilio Ficino. Muovendo dalla considerazione che nel pensiero di Marsilio Ficino tutto ciò che mette in relazione l’uomo con Dio può essere ricondotto al termine religione, si è proceduto ad analizzare il particolare significato che il termine assume in un passo del XIV Libro della Theologia Platonica, nel quale il Ficino definisce la religione come un istinto naturale comune a tutti gli uomini. Senza cedere alla tentazione di affermare che nel pensiero di Marsilio Ficino il termine religio assume il significato moderno del termine religione, si è sottolineato come, nella connotazione ficiniana di religio, sono già presenti quegli aspetti che rendono il fatto religioso altro sia dalle confessioni storiche sia dalla domanda etica del quid agendum. Inoltre l’identificazione di filosofia e religione e, l’importanza che, nel pensiero del Ficino, assume la dottrina dell’esperienza interiore come strada verso la verità, seppur condotta con l’ausilio di categorie speculative proprie della filosofia antica e medievale, anticipa in un certo modo gli esiti speculativi successivi che definiscono il fatto religioso come l’esperienza radicale dell’umano riconducibile alle grandi questioni ultime dell’esistere.

The thesis aims to illustrate the meaning that the term religion takes on in the thought of Marsilio Ficino and in particular in his most important work Platonic Theology. The paper proposes the various re-semantizations that the term religion has taken on in the history of Western thought, retracing the various stages constituted by the works of Cicero, Lactantius, Augustine, Niccolò Cusano up to Marsilio Ficino. Starting from the consideration that in the thought of Marsilio Ficino everything that relates man to God can be traced back to the term religion, we proceeded to analyze the particular meaning that the term takes on in a passage from the XIV Book of Platonic Theology, in which Ficino defines religion as a natural instinct common to all men. Without giving in to the temptation to affirm that in the thought of Marsilio Ficino the term religio takes on the modern meaning of the term religion, it has been underlined that, in Ficini's connotation of religio, those aspects are already present that make the religious fact different both from historical confessions and from the ethical question of the quid agendum. Furthermore, the identification of philosophy and religion and, the importance that, in Ficino's thought, the doctrine of interior experience assumes as a road to truth, although conducted with the aid of speculative categories specific to ancient and medieval philosophy, anticipates in a certain way the subsequent speculative outcomes that define the religious fact as the radical experience of the human attributable to the great ultimate questions of existence.
