La caccia alle streghe: analisi storico-giuridica di un fenomeno di genere

Abstract

La caccia alle streghe è stato un fenomeno di genere verificatosi in Europa e nei territori colonizzati in America tra il XV e il XVIII secolo. Seppur la figura della strega abbia origini piuttosto antiche, solo con la pubblicazione del Malleus Maleficarum nel 1486 la sua persecuzione è diventata uno degli obiettivi principali che la Chiesa voleva perseguire. La necessità di estirpare dalla società tutto ciò che risultava affine al diavolo ha portato a una moltitudine di processi e di condanne, sulla base di testimonianze non sempre affidabili e di prove dalla dubbia veridicità. Tuttavia, hanno continuato a proliferare gruppi di individui dediti alle arti magiche. Nel corso dei secoli la materia è stata trattata anche dalle università e, gradatamente, l'interesse a perseguire tali condotte è diminuito, arrivando addirittura a dubitare dell'esistenza o meno della stregoneria stessa.

Although the figure of the witch has ancient origins, it was only with the publication of the Malleus Maleficarum in 1486 that their persecution became one of the Church's primary objectives. The need to eradicate from society anything related to the devil led to a multitude of trials and convictions, based on unreliable testimony and evidence of questionable veracity. However, groups of individuals dedicated to the magical arts continued to proliferate. Over the centuries, the subject was also addressed by universities, and gradually, interest in such practices waned, even to the point of doubting the very existence of witchcraft.
