"Analisi pragmatica contrastiva degli atti di richiesta in portoghese e in spagnolo"

Abstract

Questa ricerca analizza in chiave contrastiva come i parlanti madrelingua di spagnolo iberico e portoghese europeo realizzano l’atto comunicativo della richiesta, confrontando le strategie pragmatiche adottate. L’indagine esplora il grado di directness, l’uso di modificatori morfosintattici e lessicali, e, ove possibile, fenomeni specifici come sistema di allocuzione e lessico. La motivazione nasce dal desiderio di comprendere come la cultura di Spagna e Portogallo influenzi l’uso del castigliano e del portoghese in un atto linguistico chiave per lo studio della cortesia e dell’identità sociale. Nonostante la vicinanza geografica e la parentela linguistica, è rilevante osservare l’incidenza delle differenze culturali sulle scelte comunicative. La tesi è strutturata in cinque capitoli. Il primo inquadra i protagonisti dello studio entro una cornice teorica interculturale e pragmatica, introducendo i concetti di atto linguistico, cortesia e "faccia", e analizzando le principali strategie di mitigazione. Si presentano anche critiche alla teoria di Brown e Levinson, tra cui il contributo di Terkourafi (2015), e si cita lo studio di Sampedro Mella (2019). Il secondo capitolo descrive la metodologia adottata per la raccolta e analisi dei dati, il contesto e le caratteristiche anagrafiche del campione. Il terzo capitolo analizza i dati raccolti in portoghese e spagnolo, classificando e commentando le strategie pragmatiche per grado di directness, tipo di strategia e variabili sociolinguistiche (genere ed età). Nel quarto capitolo si propone un’analisi contrastiva dei dati, osservando l’influenza culturale nella scelta delle strategie, e confrontando eventuali fenomeni pragmatici ricorrenti nei corpora. Il quinto capitolo conclude la ricerca, presentando i risultati e suggerendo possibili sviluppi futuri.

This research offers a contrastive analysis of how native speakers of Iberian Spanish and European Portuguese perform the speech act of requesting, comparing the pragmatic strategies they adopt. The study explores levels of directness, the use of morphosyntactic and lexical modifiers, and, when data allow, specific features such as address systems and lexical choices. The motivation stems from an interest in how the cultural context of Spain and Portugal influences language use in a speech act that is central to the study of politeness and social identity. Despite geographical proximity and linguistic kinship, it is relevant to examine how cultural differences shape communicative strategies. The thesis is structured in five chapters. The first chapter introduces the research subjects within an intercultural and pragmatic framework, presenting key concepts such as speech acts, politeness, and the notion of face. It examines mitigation strategies and includes critiques of Brown and Levinson’s theory, notably Terkourafi’s (2015) contributions, and discusses Sampedro Mella’s (2019) contrastive study. The second chapter outlines the methodology used for data collection and analysis, describes the research context, and presents demographic information about the participants. The third chapter analyzes the linguistic data in Spanish and Portuguese, classifying and commenting on pragmatic strategies based on directness, strategy type, and sociolinguistic variables such as gender and age. The fourth chapter provides a contrastive pragmatic analysis of the previously examined phenomena, focusing on how culture influences the observed strategies, and comparing recurring pragmatic features in the corpora. The fifth and final chapter presents the research conclusions and suggests possible future developments to expand the scope and validate or challenge the findings.
