Figurazioni dell'intelligenza artificiale: metafore e strategie testuali

Abstract

Il tema affrontato in questo lavoro di tesi riguarda le metafore e l’intelligenza artificiale.

Obiettivi. L'obiettivo di questa ricerca è duplice: da un lato, si vuole indagare se e come le metafore utilizzate per descriverla influenzino la percezione dell’IA e la sua diffusione nella società; dall’altro, valutare fino a che punto i sistemi di intelligenza artificiale siano in grado di comprendere il linguaggio metaforico, che rappresenta un aspetto chiave della cognizione umana.

Metodologia. Il lavoro di tesi è stato svolto mediante una revisione sistematica della letteratura. La ricerca è stata effettuata su Google Scholar e Uno Per Tutto, applicando il filtro “articoli” e inserendo nella barra di ricerca le parole chiave, prima in francese e poi in inglese: “métaphores et intelligence artificielle”, “métaphores et IA”, “metaphors and artificial intelligence”, “metaphors and AI”. Si sono ricercati articoli che riguardassero, appunto, le metafore e l’intelligenza artificiale e che fossero stati pubblicati non più di dieci anni fa. Sono stati individuati venti articoli utilizzati per la rassegna: dieci in francese e dieci in inglese.

Risultati e Conclusioni. Dall’analisi degli articoli, si sono sollevati interrogativi sulle metafore che descrivono l’IA e sulla sua effettiva comprensione del linguaggio figurato: resta aperto il dibattito, ma verrà comunque evidenziato il divario esistente tra simulazione dell’intelligenza e comprensione autentica delle metafore e del significato in generale.

The topic of this thesis concerns metaphors and artificial intelligence.

Objectives. The objective of this research is twofold: on the one hand, it aims to investigate how metaphors influence the perception of AI and its dissemination in society; on the other hand, it seeks to assess the extent to which artificial intelligence systems can understand metaphorical language, which is a key aspect of human cognition.

Methodology. The thesis work was carried out through a systematic literature review. The research was conducted using Google Scholar and Uno Per Tutto, applying the "articles" filter and entering the following keywords in the search bar, first in French and then in English: “métaphores et intelligence artificielle”, “métaphores et IA”, “metaphors and artificial intelligence”, “metaphors and AI”. The search focused on articles addressing metaphors and artificial intelligence published within the last ten years. A total of twenty articles were selected for the review: ten in French and ten in English.

Results and Conclusions. From the analysis of the articles, questions have been raised about the metaphors used to describe AI and its actual understanding of figurative language: the debate remains open, but the gap between simulating intelligence and the authentic understanding of metaphors and meaning in general will be highlighted.
