Anna Banti, tra storia dell'arte e narrativa

Abstract

Anna Banti, nata Lucia Lopresti, è stata una scrittrice, critica d’arte, letteraria e cinematografica del Novecento. Con questo lavoro si intende indagare quegli scritti in cui l’autrice seppe coniugare la storia dell’arte con la narrativa, dando vita a dei lavori in cui le lacune della storia vengono colmate dall’immaginazione e dall’esperienza personale. Per questo, si è tentato di definire il metodo di lavoro dell’autrice, partendo dalle riflessioni della stessa Banti, contenute ad esempio, nel suo ultimo romanzo, e tenendo in considerazione il rapporto con l’attività del marito, Roberto Longhi. Si è cercato poi riscontro delle peculiarità del suo metodo nelle opere, indagate a partire dall’articolo su Marco Boschini del 1919, seguendo l’ordine cronologico. Gli scritti della Banti presi qui in esame sono stati quindi inseriti in una riflessione più ampia sulla sua attività che, dal romanzo all’articolo di critica cinematografica, risulta coerente e unitaria. Si è infine cercato di mettere in relazione il lavoro dell’autrice col contesto culturale di cui era parte e quindi di sottolinearne i legami con lavori suoi contemporanei così come la possibile influenza su lavori successivi, fino ad oggi.

Anna Banti, born Lucia Lopresti, was a writer, art critic, and literary and film critic of the twentieth century. This thesis intends to investigate the texts in which the author combined the history of art with narrative, giving life to works wherein the gaps in history are filled by events of her imagination or based on personal experience. Firstly, to frame Anna Banti’s working method, the reflections contained in her latest novel were taken into consideration and then compared the relationship within Roberto Longhi’s works, her husband. It was then sought confirmation of the peculiarities of her writing method in the works investigated, starting from the article on Marco Boschini of 1919, following the chronological publication order. Therefore, Banti’s writings were examined here as part of a broader reflection of her career, which is coherent and unitary from the novels to the articles written on film criticism. Finally, other author texts were then examined to relate Anna Banti’s works to the cultural context that they were part of, underlining its links with contemporary works as well as the possible influence on later projects up to contemporaneity.
