Platone in Simone Weil. La fonte greca della mistica occidentale

Abstract

La tesi si propone di indagare l’operazione di scavo effettuata da Simone Weil nei meandri di quella che ella definì la "fonte greca", ovvero la radice del sentimento religioso occidentale. Attraverso un'analisi delle raccolte "La rivelazione greca" e "La Grecia e le intuizioni precristiane" – due edizioni che raccolgono gli stessi testi ma seguono linee editoriali diverse – e dei "Quaderni" della filosofa, parallelamente alla versione originale dell'opera "La source grecque", il mio obiettivo è concatenare i passaggi, talvolta elaborati e spesso frammentari, che compongono "Dieu dans Platon", opera centrale di Weil sul pensiero greco. L'elaborato intende mostrare come, nell'ermeneutica weiliana, Platone non sia soltanto l’erede della tradizione sapienziale precedente, ma anche l’autore di una sintesi più alta, capace di unire l’insegnamento dei culti misterici, in particolare quelli orfici ed eleusini, con la scoperta pitagorica della geometria come immagine e simbolo del concetto di mediazione. Per chiarire questo punto, la mia tesi si propone di mettere ordine nella complessa concatenazione di dialoghi che Weil ritiene depositari dell'insegnamento iniziatico di Platone, tanto nella sua matrice orfica quanto nella radice pitagorica. Tale insegnamento, nella lettura di Weil, si fonda sul concetto di mediazione. La mia tesi vuole, dunque, evidenziare come la nozione di "metaxy", di intermediario, che risiede al cuore della mistica, sostenga l’intera ermeneutica weiliana di Platone, motivandone la lettura quale "padre della mistica occidentale".

My thesis aims to investigate the inquiry carried out by Simone Weil in the intricacies of what she defined as the "Greek source", namely, the root of Western spirituality. Through an analysis of the Italian translation of the collections "La rivelazione greca" and "La Grecia e le intuizioni pre-cristiane" – two editions which compile the same texts but follow different editorial lines – and of the philosopher's "Quaderni", alongside the original version of hr work "La source grecque", my objective is to connect the passages, sometimes elaborate and often fragmented, which compose "Dieu dans Platon", a central work in Weil's interpretation of Greek philosophy and religion. My dissertation intends to show how, in Weil's hermeneutics, Plato is not only the heir of an ancient tradition, but also the author of a higher synthesis capable of uniting the teachings of the mystery cults, particularly the Orphic and Eleusinian ones, with the Pythagorean discovery of geometry as an image and symbol of the concept of mediation. To clarify this point, my thesis aims to organize the complex concatenation of dialogues which Weil considers to be repositories of Plato's initiatory teaching, both in its Orphic origin and in its Pythagorean roots. This teaching, in Weil's reading, is based on the concept of mediation. Therefore, my thesis intends to highlight how the notion of "metaxy", of intermediary, which resides at the heart of mysticism, underpins the entire Weil's hermeneutics of Plato, justifying her reading as the "father of Western mysticism".
