Subculture e contro culture musicali in relazione all'utilizzo di sostanze stupefacenti

Abstract

La musica possiede un potere straordinario di unire le persone, creando identità e senso di appartenenza. Essa ha la unzione di portavoce di valori e significati per gruppi sociali. Questa tesi esplora la relazione tra subculture musicali e l'uso di sostanze stupefacenti, un tema socioculturale di rilevanza storica. Si analizzeranno le subculture emerse dagli anni Sessanta sino ad oggi. La prima parte definirà subculture e controculture, esaminando le loro caratteristiche distintive e il legame intrinseco con l'uso di sostanze. La seconda parte offrirà una rassegna storica di subculture emblematiche, come la cultura Rastafari, la controcultura hippie e la scena rave, analizzando i valori e le pratiche associate all'uso di sostanze. Il terzo capitolo tratterà le subculture che si oppongono all'uso di sostanze, come il movimento straight edge, esplorando le motivazioni e le pratiche di queste comunità. Infine, si presenteranno studi sugli effetti dell’uso di sostanze sulla relazione con la musica. La tesi mira a fornire una comprensione approfondita delle complesse dinamiche tra subculture musicali e uso di sostanze.

Music possesses an extraordinary power to unite people, creating identity and a sense of belonging. It serves as a spokesperson for values and meanings for social groups. This thesis explores the relationship between musical subcultures and the use of drugs, a sociocultural theme of historical relevance. It will analyze the subcultures that have emerged from the 1960s to the present day. The first part will define subcultures and countercultures, examining their distinctive characteristics and the intrinsic link to substance use. The second part will provide a historical overview of emblematic subcultures, such as Rastafarian culture, the hippie counterculture, and the rave scene, analyzing the values and practices associated with substance use. The third chapter will address subcultures that oppose substance use, such as the straight edge movement, exploring the motivations and practices of these communities. Finally, studies on the effects of substance use on the relationship with music will be presented. The thesis aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the complex dynamics between musical subcultures and substance use.
