Viaggio al centro del Food Porn

Abstract

Il percorso di ricerca di questa tesi parte dalla considerazione che nella società odierna la gastronomia ha assunto gradualmente un ruolo sempre più centrale. Al fine di comprendere al meglio tale tipologia di comunicazione del cibo è indispensabile una spiegazione del concetto di food porn. Pertanto, nell’elaborato, si esamineranno le possibili origini e definizioni che sono state attribuite al termine nel corso del tempo, per poi focalizzarsi (sottolineandone il costante e stretto rapporto sempre intrattenuto con la sfera pornografica) sulle declinazioni che il trend ha assunto negli ultimi anni, configurandosi come una vera e propria forma di sottocultura. Attraverso una descrizione e un’analisi concettuale e visiva vengono indagate le caratteristiche della rappresentazione del food porn rispetto ad una concezione estetizzante del cibo, nella quale la lussuria visiva svolge un ruolo dominante a scapito di altri valori legati al cibo, quali quelli salutistici e nutrizionali, di gran lunga più importanti ma che, dall’avvento di tale fenomeno, hanno subito un ridimensionamento nella narrazione legata al mondo del food.

The research path of this thesis starts from the consideration that gastronomy has gradually taken on an increasingly central role in today's society. In order to best understand this type of food communication, an explanation of the concept of food porn is indispensable. Therefore, the paper will examine the possible origins and definitions that have been attributed to the term over time, and will then focus (emphasising the constant and close relationship it has always had with the pornographic sphere) on the declinations that the trend has taken on in recent years, configuring itself as a true form of subculture. Through a description and a conceptual and visual analysis, the characteristics of the representation of food porn are investigated in relation to an aestheticising conception of food, in which visual lust plays a dominant role to the detriment of other values linked to food, such as health and nutritional values, which are far more important but which, since the advent of this phenomenon, have undergone a downsizing in the narrative linked to the world of food.
