Dall'Uganda al Camerun, quale futuro per la politica in Africa?

Abstract

Questa tesi si divide in due parti. Nella prima, viene esaminata, a livello generale, la situazione politica nel continente africano, a partire da un background storico e sociale, fino a una classificazione dei regimi (autoritari, ibridi, democratici), cercando di comprendere le ragioni per cui vi sono poche democrazie nel continente africano. In seguito, viene dedicato ampio spazio a un'analisi circa il ruolo dell'esercito del potere politico, spiegando quali condizioni possono favorirlo (come instabilità e guerre) e affrontando un tema di attualità che riguarda la "cintura dei golpe". La seconda parte, invece, vuole comprendere le dinamiche presenti in Uganda e Camerun, partendo da un background storico-culturale dei due paesi, fino ad arrivare a un'analisi del regime politico, mettendone in luce tutti i principali elementi. In seguito, si dà ampio spazio alle sfide presenti nei paesi e alle prospettive future, per poi confrontarli e capire quali sono le similitudini e le differenze. La tesi vuole cercare di dare una risposta a molti quesiti, alcuni riguardanti il continente africano in generale, altri riguardanti i due paesi trattati.

This thesis is divided into two parts. In the first one, I examine, on a general scale, the political situation of Africa, starting from an historical and cultural background, up to a classification of the regimes (authoritarian, hybrid, democratic), by trying to understand the reasons why there are few democracies in the continent. Besides that, I analysed the role of the military in the political power, by explaining which conditions may favor it (such as wars and instability) and by getting into a current topic about the "coup belt". In the second part, I try to understand the main dynamics which are there in Uganda and Cameroon, starting from an historical and cultural background, and coming to an analysis of the political regime, by underlining all the main elements. After that, I give wide space to the challenges of the countries and of the future perspective, in order to compare them and to understand which are the common points and the differences. The goal of the thesis is to try to give an answer to many issues, some of them regarding Africa in general, some others regarding the two countries examined.
