Evoluzione Oltre le Regolamentazioni: Approcci Avanzati per Valutare e Ottimizzare la Sostenibilità negli Stadi tramite DCE e Machine Learning.

Abstract

Il presente elaborato intende fornire una panoramica generale su quelli che sono gli aspetti ESG principali che emergono dall’ambito calcistico. L'obiettivo è quello di raggiungere un livello più avanzato di sostenibilità e di sfruttare l'eco che questo sport, e in particolare il ruolo degli stadi, può avere come strumento per sensibilizzare una vasta parte della popolazione. Il metodo valutativo conosciuto come Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) sarà impiegato per valutare quale delle alternative presentate, rappresentanti diversi scenari di stadio sostenibile, è preferita dal campione intervistato sulla base delle caratteristiche o attributi da cui sono composte. Questo approccio stabilirà anche quali attributi hanno esercitato la maggiore influenza sulle scelte dei rispondenti, evidenziando così la loro disponibilità a pagare per ciascun attributo. Inoltre, data l’assenza di leggi che sanciscono specifiche soglie di sostenibilità per i club, è stato esaminato il “Sustainability Index 2023”, un indice della sostenibilità delle squadre inglesi. Utilizzando modelli di regressione tradizionali e approcci di Machine Learning si è voluto verificare quanto questo indicatore possa essere robusto ed efficace, sulla base dei dati disponibili, per poter fornire una metrica sostenibile che possa essere adottata e migliorata anche da altri paesi, in base alle risorse economiche a loro disposizione.

The present study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the primary ESG aspects emerging from the football sector. The purpose is to achieve a higher level of sustainability and to leverage the impact that this sport, particularly the role of stadiums, can have as a tool to raise awareness among a wide portion of the population. The evaluative method known as Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) will be employed to assess which of the presented alternatives, representing different scenarios of sustainable stadium, is favoured by the interviewed sample based on the characteristics or attributes they comprise. This approach will also establish which attributes have exerted the greatest influence on respondents’ choices, thereby highlighting their willingness to pay for each attribute. Furthermore, given the absence of laws establishing specific sustainability thresholds for clubs, the “Sustainability Index 2023”, an indicator of the sustainability of English teams, was examined. Through the utilization of traditional regression models and Machine Learning approaches, the aim was to assess the robustness and efficacy of this indicator based on the available data, to provide a sustainable metric that can be adopted and enhanced by other countries according to their economic resources.
