La morte : dagli aspetti storico - antropologici e filosofici all'attuale dibattito etico sul fine vita

Abstract

Nel presente elaborato affronto la questione sulla morte in prospettiva storica, antropologica, filosofica, ontologica ed etica. Il mio desiderio di interrogazione sulla tematica in oggetto prende spazio nel pensiero nel periodo della recente pandemia. Durante questo periodo di isolamento siamo stati privati delle nostre libertà per ridurre il rischio di contagio ma grazie all’utilizzo delle tecnologie di cui oggi disponiamo è stato possibile mantenersi in contatto ed essere quotidianamente aggiornati su ciò che stava accadendo nel mondo. Al telegiornale venivano presentate minuziose statistiche sul numero dei decessi (talvolta aggiornato anche di ora in ora) ma l’atteggiamento di fronte a tutto ciò non mutava mai. Nessuno o quasi nelle proprie conversazioni vedeva come protagonista l’insieme dei morti che ogni giorno scomparivano. Questo evidenzia l’attuale fenomeno di rimozione della morte dalla nostra vita. Nella parte prima dell’elaborato cerco di comprendere se l’atteggiamento dell’uomo di fronte alla morte sia sempre stato questo, di indagare i fenomeni che hanno portato alla all’attuale rimozione della morte e di analizzarne in parte le cause, assegnando particolare attenzione alla comprensione del perché la morte di qualcuno cui teniamo ci addolori molto più di un genocidio. Successivamente, nella parte seconda, pongo il problema filosofico sulla morte come problema al di là della vita, a partire dal rapporto tra anima e corpo, tra ciò che di noi esseri umani è materiale e ciò che non lo è, in riferimento al pensiero di Epicuro, Platone, Cartesio, Kant, Schopenhauer, Marcel e Sciacca. Cerco, attraverso questi autori, di comprendere se l’evento della morte pone fine alla vita tutta, se la morte sia solo corporea, se dopo la morte qualcosa di noi possa sopravvivere. Mi interrogo sulla possibilità di un’esistenza perpetua, su problemi etici, sul confine tra libertà e obbligazione nelle scelte di fine vita.

The aim of this paper is dealing with the question of death from a historical, anthropological, philosophical, ontological and ethical perspective. The craving to question myself about this topic has been growing in the recent years of pandemic. During this isolation period, we were deprived of our freedoms to reduce the risk of contagion, but thanks to today’s technologies it was possible to keep in touch and be updated daily on what was happening in the world. Detailed statistics on the number of deaths were presented on the news (sometimes even updated hour by hour) but people’s attitude never changed; nobody, generally, seemed to be really willing to discuss about thousands of people dying every day. This fact highlights the current phenomenon of removing death from our lives. The first part of the essay tries to understand whether man's attitude in relation to death has always been this, to investigate the key factors that have led to the current removal of death, paying particular attention to figure out why the death of someone we care about is more painful than a genocide. Subsequently, in the second part, I face the philosophical questioning on death as a problem beyond life, starting from the relationship between soul and body, between what is material in us as human beings and what is not, in reference to the thoughts of Epicurus, Plato, Descartes, Kant, Schopenhauer, Marcel and Sciacca. I try, through these authors, to understand whether the event of death puts an end to the life itself, whether death is only corporeal, whether something of us can survive after death. The query is about the possibility of perpetual existence, about ethical problems, about the boundary between freedom and obligation in end-of-life choices.
