In cerca di un nucleo comune dei fenomeni di pensiero spontaneo.

Abstract

I pensieri spontanei sono pensieri che emergono nella mente senza una pianificazione o uno sforzo cosciente da parte dell'individuo. La letteratura si è spesso concentrata sulle diverse manifestazioni che questi possono assumere. In particolar modo, tali manifestazioni sono la ruminazione, il rimuginio, il mind wandering (spontaneo e deliberato), il daydreaming, il pensiero perseverativo, la riflessione, le memorie autobiografiche involontarie. Queste sono state indagate dalla letteratura (e nel presente studio) anche nel loro aspetto maladattivo, collegato alla psicopatologia. La presente ricerca si è focalizzata sulla possibilità che le diverse manifestazioni dei pensieri spontanei a livello di struttura fattoriale potessero essere ritenute espressione di un unico costrutto di ordine superiore. Quest'ipotesi è stata verificata attraverso la somministrazione di una batteria di strumenti self-report indirizzati a misurare tali manifestazioni e il costrutto del nevroticismo, collegato dalla letteratura ai pensieri spontanei. I risultati ottenuti in questo studio hanno evidenziato la presenza di due fattori e hanno portato ad effettuare diverse considerazioni sulle possibili conseguenze e applicazioni che questi comportano.

Spontaneous thoughts are thoughts that emerge in the mind without planning or conscious effort on the part of the individual. Literature has often focused on the different manifestations that these can assume. In particular, such manifestations are rumination, brooding, mind wandering (spontaneous and deliberate), daydreaming, persevering thought, reflection, involuntary autobiographical memories. These have been investigated by the literature (and in the present study) also in their maladaptive aspect, linked to psychopathology. This research has focused on the possibility that the different manifestations of spontaneous thoughts at the level of factorial structure could be considered an expression of a single construct of a higher order. This hypothesis has been verified through the administration of a battery of self-report instruments aimed at measuring such manifestations and the construct of neuroticism, linked by literature to spontaneous thoughts. The results obtained in this study showed the presence of two factors and led to different considerations on the possible consequences and applications that these entail.
