Il racconto della peste genovese del 1656 1657 dai cronisti coevi agli storici contemporanei

Abstract

L'elaborato analizza la peste che colpì la città di Genova nel 1656-1657 attraverso l'utilizzo di documenti bibliografici e annalistici. Tali documenti hanno permesso di ricostruire le diverse modalità di azione delle varie magistrature di cui la città disponeva dandoci modo di capire come esse agissero sia nei momenti di quiete che nei periodi di piena emergenza. Ma sicuramente la parte più interessante estratta da questi documenti riguarda le testimonianze oculari di coloro che vissero da protagonisti la grande peste; le loro parole ci riportano vividamente lo sgomento, l'impotenza ed il terrore che pervadeva gli uomini e le donne di quell'epoca, consapevoli che il morbo li avrebbe portati alla morte. Nonostante ciò molti di loro spesero le proprie forze e la propria vita al servizio dei pestilenti. Nella tesi ho cercato di compendiare questi due aspetti partendo da una ricostruzione storica per poi addentrarmi nelle vite degli esseri umani che quell'evento storico lo hanno vissuto.

The paper analyses the plague that struck Genoa in 1656-1657 through the use of annalistics and bibliographic documents. These documents have made it possible ti reconstruct the different mode of action of various magistrates, that the city had at its disposal, allowing us to understand how they acted both in times of calm and periods of full emergency. Certainly, the most interesting part extacted from these documents concerns the testimonies of those who lived the great plague as main characters; their words bring us back to the dismay, the impotence and the terror that invaded man and woman of that time, aware that the plague would lead them to death. Despite this, many of them spent their strength and their own life at the service of the palgue's victims. In this paper I've tried to summarize these two aspects, starting with a historical reconstruction and then delving into those human being's lives who lived through that historical event.
