Abstract

La globalizzazione ha reso la comunicazione interlinguistica un aspetto cruciale nella diffusione delle idee, e uno dei concetti che ha guadagnato particolare rilevanza è il neoliberismo. Questa tesi si propone di esplorare la traduzione di un testo molto importante in ambito storico-politico sul neoliberismo dall’inglese all’italiano, con l’obiettivo di comprendere le sfide, le scelte e le conseguenze linguistiche e culturali coinvolte. Attraverso l’analisi comparativa tra il testo in inglese e la traduzione in italiano, questa tesi si propone di esaminare come il neoliberismo viene trasmesso attraverso il filtro della lingua e della cultura, esplorando le sfide specifiche che emergono durante questo processo. Oltre a fornire un’analisi linguistica, la tesi esplorerà anche le implicazioni culturali della traduzione, considerando come il neoliberismo, originariamente enunciato in un contesto socio-economico specifico, si rifletta e si adatti alle realtà italiane. Il testo tradotto è The Neoliberal Age? Britain since the 1970s, scritto da Aled Davies, Ben Jackson e Florence Sutcliffe-Braithwaite. L’opera offre un’analisi approfondita del neoliberismo, ma è importante sottolineare che tale prospettiva non può da sola offrire una comprensione esaustiva del contesto britannico odierno. L’obiettivo finale è quello di contribuire a una comprensione più approfondita di come i concetti fondamentali del neoliberismo vengano interpretati e recepiti attraverso il filtro della traduzione, sottolineando l’importanza di un’approfondita riflessione critica nella trasmissione di idee complesse in contesti linguistici diversi.

Globalisation has made interlingual communication a crucial factor in spreading ideas, and neoliberalism is one of the concepts that has gained relevance. This thesis aims to explore the translation from English into Italian of a historically vital text about neoliberalism, whose goal is understanding the linguistic and cultural challenges, choices and consequences involved. Through comparative analysis between the English text and the Italian translation, this thesis sets out to examine how neoliberalism is transmitted through the filter of language and culture, exploring the specific challenges that emerge during this process. In addition to providing a linguistic analysis, the thesis will also explore the cultural implications of translation, considering how neoliberalism, which was originally enunciated in a specific socio-economic context, is reflected and adapted to Italian realities. The translated text is “The Neoliberal Age? Britain since the 1970s”, written by Aled Davies, Ben Jackson and Florence Sutcliffe-Braithwaite. The work offers an in-depth analysis of neoliberalism, but it is important to emphasise that this perspective alone cannot offer a comprehensive understanding of the British context today. In conclusion, the final purpose is to contribute to a deeper understanding of how the fundamental concepts of neoliberalism are interpreted and received through the filter of translation, emphasising the importance of critical reflection in the transmission of complex ideas in different linguistic contexts.
