Glossario multilingue del diritto del mare. Studio in russo, italiano e inglese

Abstract

Il presente lavoro ha l’obiettivo di individuare e schedare i termini estratti dalla convenzione UNCLOS nel sottodominio del diritto del mare per la costituzione di un glossario marittimo multilingue. La tesi si presenta, appunto, come un progetto multilingue, avendo lavorato parallelamente alla schedatura dei termini in italiano, russo ed inglese. La realizzazione di questo progetto è il frutto della collaborazione con il Ce.R.Te.M. (Centro di Ricerca in Terminologia Multilingue), grazie al quale sono nati altri progetti nello stesso ambito ma in sottodomini diversi. Nel primo capitolo si introduce brevemente la storia della terminologia, il suo rapporto con la traduzione e gli sviluppi futuri nel mondo dell’Intelligenza Artificiale. È presente, inoltre, una descrizione del documento utilizzato per la costituzione del glossario marittimo, la convenzione UNCLOS, insieme al contesto storico in cui questo è nato. Un paragrafo è dedicato alla illustrazione del sottodominio in cui rientra tale glossario, il diritto del mare. Nel secondo capitolo viene descritto il processo di lavoro nel dettaglio, a partire dal metodo di estrazione terminologica, lo strumento utilizzato e le sue diverse funzionalità, e in ultimo la scheda terminologica e le sue voci. Vengono, infine, descritte le fonti utilizzate per reperire le informazioni inserite nelle schede e i requisiti che devono possedere. Seguono le schede terminologiche in italiano, russo ed inglese. L’ultimo capitolo è dedicato al commento delle schede terminologiche, in particolare alla comparazione delle differenze individuate per uno stesso termine nelle diverse lingue. Si scende più nel dettaglio delle leggi applicate a livello nazionale e di quelle create appositamente dopo l’adozione del documento UNCLOS. Si descrivono, inoltre, i termini che hanno creato maggiori difficoltà al momento della schedatura. Si tracciano, poi, le possibili finalità di un lavoro terminologico di questo tipo.

This paper aims to examine and file the terms extracted from the UNCLOS Convention in the subdomain of the Law of the Sea for the constitution of a multilingual maritime glossary. This thesis is, indeed, a multilingual project, having worked jointly in Italian, Russian and English. This project is the result of a collaboration with Ce.R.Te.M. (Centre for Research in Multilingual Terminology), which works with other projects in the same field but within different subdomains. The first chapter briefly introduces the history of terminology, its connection to translation and future developments in the field of Artificial Intelligence. It includes a description of the document used for the establishment of the maritime glossary, the UNCLOS Convention, and the historical context in which it originated. A paragraph is devoted to the description of the subdomain of the law of the sea. The work process is described in detail in the second chapter, starting with the method chosen for terminology extraction, the tool which has been used and its various purposes, and eventually the terminological sheet and its entries. Moreover, there is the description of the sources used to find the information entered in the sheets and the requirements which they must meet. This description is followed by the terminological sheets in Italian, Russian and English. The last chapter contains the commentary on the terminological sheets, comparing, in particular, the differences identified for the same term in different languages. The chapter goes into more detail about the laws applied at national level and those created specifically after the adoption of the UNCLOS Convention. The terms that created the most difficulties are also described. The possible purposes of such a terminological work are then outlined.
