Valutazione delle prestazioni di calciatori con tecniche di regressione statistica

Abstract

The topic of this thesis refers to the work carried out during the internship period at the company ON AIR S.R.L., and extends from a methodological point of view the data analysis for the evaluation of footballers' performances, with statistical regression models. The main objective of the study is to analyze various characteristics of a footballer, to try to understand which of these most influence his market value. The data examined was collected by Transfermarkt.com, the popular platform that collects data and statistics on professional football. The market value of the players is estimated using various statistical regression methods, implemented with the R software, with the aim of replicating what is reported on Transfermarkt.

L’argomento di questa tesi fa riferimento al lavoro svolto durante il periodo di tirocinio presso l’azienda ON AIR S.R.L., ed estende dal punto di vista metodologico l’analisi dati per la valutazione delle prestazioni di calciatori, con modelli di regressione statistica. L’obiettivo principale dello studio è quello di analizzare varie caratteristiche di un calciatore, per cercare di capire quali di queste influenzano maggiormente il suo valore di mercato. I dati esaminati sono stati raccolti da Transfermarkt.com, la popolare piattaforma che raccoglie dati e statistiche sul calcio professionistico. Il valore di mercato dei calciatori viene stimato utilizzando diversi metodi di regressione statistica, implementati con il software R, con l’obiettivo di replicare quanto riportato su Transfermarkt.
