Caratterizzazione geologico-paleontologico dell'unità flyschoide a substrato del Conglomerato di Portofino.

Abstract

The main aim of this work is the geological and paleontological characterization of the turbidite substrate on which the Portofino Conglomerate (PC), formed during the middle-upper Eocene, lies in stratigraphic contact. The work aims at defining whether the substrate itself can be attributed to a flyschoid turbidite complex different from those belonging to the Antola Unit as commonly believed. The characterization of the substrate and the definition of its paleogeographic and tectono-stratigraphic relevance would allow us to hypothesize a new and different geological-tectonic history, thus defining the relationships between the Portofino Conglomerate and its substrate with the underlying Antola Unit. The data obtained would us allow to date the substrate of the Portofino Conglomerate, opening up therefore a new interpretation on the origins and provenance of the lithotypes investigated in the study area.

L’obiettivo principale del presente lavoro è la caratterizzazione geologica e paleontologica del substrato torbiditico sul quale riposa, in contatto stratigrafico, il Conglomerato di Portofino (PC) formatosi durante l’Eocene medio-superiore. Il lavoro svolto mira a definire se il substrato stesso sia ascrivibile ad un complesso torbiditico flyschoide diverso da quelli pertinenti all’Unità Antola come comunemente ritenuto. La caratterizzazione del substrato e la definizione della sua pertinenza paleogeografica e tettono-stratigrafica permetterebbero di ipotizzare una nuova e diversa storia geologica-tettonica definendo così i rapporti fra il Conglomerato di Portofino e il suo substrato con la soggiacente Unità Antola. I dati ottenuti hanno permesso di datare il substrato del Conglomerato di Portofino aprendo così ad una nuova interpretazione sulle origini e la provenienza dei litotipi indagati nell’area di studio.
