I mosaici in Sicilia nella prima e media età imperiale

Abstract

In questo contributo sono stati presi in esame 12 siti siciliani, distinti per provincia, contenenti un totale di 47 pavimenti musivi, tessellati e in tecnica mista con sectilia, di prima e media età imperiale. I casi di studio presi in considerazione, analizzati attraverso la compilazione di schede descrittive del contesto generale del sito e delle rispettive sotto-schede di analisi del mosaico, sono stati selezionati con l’obiettivo di formare una casistica il più possibile completa, tale da includere contesti con caratteristiche differenti: urbani e rurali, grandi e piccoli, ricchi e meno ricchi, noti e meno noti, allo scopo di comprendere, attraverso l’analisi di questa affascinante classe di materiali, la cultura, la dinamica sociale e la storia dei contesti che li ospitavano.

In this contribution, 12 Sicilian sites were examined, distinguished by province, containing a total of 47 mosaic floors, tessellated and in mixed technique with sectilia, from the early and middle Imperial period. The selected case studies, analyzed through the compilation of descriptive sheets of the general context of the site and respective sub-sheets for mosaic analysis, were chosen with the aim of forming a case series as complete as possible. This series includes contexts with different characteristics: urban and rural, large and small, wealthy and less wealthy, well-known and less known. The goal is to understand, through the analysis of this fascinating class of materials, the culture, social dynamics, and history of the hosting contexts.
