Luigi Davì, l'operaio che fece lo scrittore

Abstract

La tesi svolta in questione analizza tutta l’opera letteraria di Luigi Davì, scrittore operaio nato nel 1929 e vissuto nei sobborghi torinesi, a stretto contatto con le fabbriche fin da ragazzo. La ricerca segue da vicino le corrispondenze dell’autore con i suoi due maestri letterari, Italo Calvino e Elio Vittorini. Partendo dalla prima pubblicazione ufficiale di Davì, la raccolta di racconti Gymkhana-Cross, la tesi si concentra sulle vicende editoriali che portano alla realizzazione dei vari testi e racconti e sulle particolarità della scrittura di Davì, data la sua eccezionale prospettiva operaia. Nello specifico, si veda: la partecipazione di Davì al quarto numero del Menabò, rivista di letteratura, in cui si indaga il ruolo degli scrittori a confronto con la nascente realtà industriale; l’importanza della natura testimoniale e autentica delle esperienze dello scrittore, attraverso il quale passano fatti di cronaca operaia tra il 1957 e il 1965, e l’evoluzione dei racconti, che seguono i percorsi lavorativi di Davì fino all’esaurimento delle ambizioni letterarie con l’ultima raccolta pubblicata nel 1965.

The dissertation analyzes the entire literary work of Luigi Davì, a working-class writer born in 1929 and raised in the suburbs of Turin, in close contact with factories from a young age. The research closely follows the correspondences between the author and his two literary mentors, Italo Calvino and Elio Vittorini. Starting from Davì's first official publication, the collection of short stories "Gymkhana-Cross," the thesis focuses on the editorial events leading to the creation of various texts and stories, and on the peculiarities of Davì's writing, given his exceptional working-class perspective. Specifically, it examines Davì's participation in the fourth issue of Menabò, a literary magazine, where the role of writers in comparison to the emerging industrial reality is explored. It also delves into the importance of the testimonial and authentic nature of the writer's experiences, portraying working-class events between 1957 and 1965. The evolution of the stories is highlighted, tracing Davì's career paths until the exhaustion of literary ambitions with the last collection published in 1965.
