| it_IT |
dc.description.abstract | This thesis addresses the challenge of solving inverse problems in neuroscience, with a specific focus on localizing neural activity using techniques such as MEG and EEG. It explores the Bayesian approach as a solution to this problem, employing the dipole model to estimate the number, position, direction, and intensity of current dipoles from MEG or EEG measurements. The work highlights the use of the particle filter, a Bayesian Monte Carlo technique, for dynamic neural source reconstruction but underscores the challenges associated with the appearance of new sources. To overcome these limitations, a new approach based on the SESAME algorithm is introduced. SESAME is a Bayesian method that utilizes Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) samplers for the reconstruction of static neural sources. This novel approach analyzes data moment by moment, providing a series of estimates for each time instant, with subsequent estimates taking into account previous information. In summary, instead of obtaining a single static estimate for neural sources over a time interval, the new approach provides a series of estimates capturing the dynamics of sources over time. The thesis is structured into five chapters covering theoretical and computational aspects of this process. | en_UK |
