L'Iraq nella storia del Medio Oriente contemporaneo.

Abstract

Questa Tesi di laurea elabora la storia dell'Iraq, partendo dalle sue origini come Stato nazionale fino ad arrivare ad oggi, in un percorso che ricopre oltre cento anni di storia. Il fulcro del lavoro si basa sul comprendere le fragilità interne del Paese e l'influenza delle grandi potenze su di esso. I macro-temi analizzati nell'elaborato sono essenzialmente quattro: . il primo riguarda la nascita dell'Iraq e il suo sviluppo precedente l'ascesa di Saddam Hussein; . il secondo analizza i primi anni al potere del partito Baath e la guerra Iran-Iraq; . il terzo si concentra sulla prima guerra del Golfo e le sue conseguenze; . il quarto (e ultimo) tratta il tentativo fallimentare statunitense di rendere democratico l'Iraq, il quale genera l'ascesa del fondamentalismo islamico.

This degree thesis elaborates the history of Iraq, starting from its origins as a national state up to today, in a journey that covers over one hundred years of history. The focus of the work is based on understanding the country's internal fragilities and the influence of the great powers on it. The macro themes analyzed in the thesis are essentially four: . the first concerns the birth of Iraq and its development prior to the rise of Saddam Hussein; . the second analyzes the first years in power of the Baath party and the Iran-Iraq war; . the third focuses on the first Gulf War and its consequences; . the fourth (and last) deals with the failed US attempt to democratize Iraq, which generates the rise of Islamic fundamentalism.
