Combustibili e tecnologie alternative per il settore marittimo: Restrizioni IMO, analisi della letteratura, analisi dei criteri di scelta per le compagnie di Shipping e caso studio Cosiarma SPA

Abstract

Da molti anni si discute sulle possibili tecnologie e sui possibili combustibili alternativi a quelli oggi maggiormente utilizzati. Il cambiamento climatico ha ulteriormente spinto verso un’azione urgente da parte del settore marittimo. L’Organizzazione marittima internazionale (IMO) ha imposto così controlli e imposizioni normative sempre più severe al settore marittimo per la tutela dell’ambiente. In questo studio, in particolare nel secondo capitolo, presentiamo un’analisi dettagliata delle imposizioni normative sia a livello internazionale sia comunitario dai primi anni ad oggi. Il terzo capitolo si è concentrato sulla letteratura presente riguardo ai diversi combustibili e le diverse tecnologie disponibili volte all’abbattimento delle emissioni dei greenhouse gas (GHG). Nel quarto capitolo l’analisi si è focalizzata sui criteri su cui gli shipowners potrebbero basare la loro scelta per il combustibile/tecnologia alternativi. In particolare, grazie al caso studio affrontato, si è voluto porre alcune domande per comprendere come una compagnia armatoriale oggi si comporta o si comporterà nel futuro in previsione di questi rilevanti cambiamenti previsti e imposti.

Possible alternative technologies and fuels to those most widely used today have been discussed for many years. Climate change has further pushed for urgent action by the maritime industry. Thus, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has imposed increasingly stringent controls and regulatory impositions on the maritime sector to protect the environment. In this study, particularly in the second chapter, we present a detailed analysis of both international and EU regulatory impositions from the early years to the present. The third chapter focused on the present literature regarding the different fuels and technologies available aimed at abating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In the fourth chapter, the analysis focused on the criteria on which shipowners could base their choice for alternative fuel/technology. In particular, through the case study addressed, it aimed to ask some questions to understand how a shipowning company today behaves or will behave in the future in anticipation of these relevant expected and imposed changes.
