Logistica e traffici marittimi nel settore ortofrutta

Abstract

La seguente tesi si concentra sull'analisi della logistica e dei traffici marittimi dell'ortofrutta, settore fondamentale per l'economia mondiale, ma soprattutto italiana, in quanto l’Italia è un paese leader in Europa per la distribuzione di frutta e verdura. Nella prima parte, viene descritto il mercato ortofrutticolo italiano e mondiale, analizzando le tendenze, le sfide e le opportunità del settore. Successivamente, si approfondisce la logistica dell'ortofrutta, con particolare attenzione ai sistemi di trasporto e alle infrastrutture utilizzate, e con una breve comparazione tra il sistema logistico italiano e quello dei principali paesi del mondo dediti all’import ed export di ortofrutta. La seconda parte della tesi analizza i traffici marittimi, focalizzandosi sui traffici di ortofrutta, e il ruolo dei porti in tale settore. Inoltre, viene descritto un mercato necessario per il trasporto di tali prodotti, ed in continua crescita negli ultimi anni, quello dei container reefer, anche tramite una breve analisi delle cold chain utilizzate da due principali player dello shipping, MSC e Maersk. Vengono poi esaminati i principali porti italiani ed europei che distribuiscono ortofrutta e le rotte più utilizzate da quest’ultimi. Infine, nella terza parte della tesi viene presentata la shipping company italiana COSIARMA, una delle principali compagnie di navigazione che trasportano ortofrutta e che si trova al 12° posto nella classifica mondiale delle shipping company, con una quota di mercato pari al 1,8% del totale. Vengono analizzate le attività, la flotta e le rotte che percorre, nonché i contratti in essere con clienti, fornitori di bunker, noleggio di container, noleggio di slot nave e le agenzie marittime con cui opera, in modo da completare le sue schedule dal Centro-America all’Europa nella maniera più sicura possibile.

The following thesis focuses on the analysis of the logistics and maritime traffic of fruit and vegetables, a key sector for the world economy, but especially the Italian one, as Italy is a leading country in Europe for fruit and vegetable distribution. In the first part, the Italian and world fruit and vegetable market is described, analysing trends, challenges and opportunities in the sector. Next, the logistics of fruit and vegetables are explored, with a focus on the transportation systems and infrastructure used, and with a brief comparison between the Italian logistics system and that of the main countries in the world dedicated to fruit and vegetable import and export. The second part of the thesis analyses maritime traffic, focusing on fruit and vegetable trade, and the role of ports in this sector. In addition, a market necessary for the transport of such products is described, and one that has been growing in recent years, that of reefer containers, including through a brief analysis of the cold chains used by two major shipping players, MSC and Maersk. The main Italian and European ports that distribute fruit and vegetables and the routes most used by them are then examined. Finally, the third part of the thesis introduces the Italian shipping company COSIARMA, one of the leading shipping companies transporting fruit and vegetables, which ranks 12th in the world ranking of shipping companies, with a market share of 1.8 percent of the total. Its activities, fleet, and the routes it travels are analysed, as well as its existing contracts with customers, bunker suppliers, container chartering, ship slot chartering, and the shipping agencies with which it operates, in order to complete its schedules from Central America to Europe as safely as possible.
