Cinema e pandemia: le reazioni dell'industria

Abstract

La tesi parte da un'analisi degli effetti che la pandemia di COVID-19 ha prodotto sulla società e sull'economia nel suo complesso per poi restringere il campo al settore cinematografico, seriale ed audiovisivo in genere. Nello specifico si rende conto di come la grande prosperità che aveva caratterizzato questo ramo dell'economia nei decenni precedenti sia stata fortemente intaccata dalla chiusure delle sale, dallo stop delle produzioni e dal cambio dei piani di distribuzione. In questo percorso si analizzano quindi quali sono state le modalità con cui soprattutto esercenti cinematografici e case di produzione hanno risposto alle difficoltà introdotte dalla pandemia nel regolare corso del mercato. Ci si concentrerà quindi soprattutto sulla crescita dei servizi di streaming registrata durante i lockdown, mostrando come questa abbi prodotto sotto diversi aspetti sia effetti positivi sia negativi. Nell'ultimo capitolo in particolare si cerca di dare uno sguardo al futuro, tenendo però sempre a mente la necessità di dover fare i conti con un momento di transizione.

The thesis begins with an analysis of the effects that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on society and the economy as a whole and then narrows the field to the film, serial, and audiovisual industry in general. Specifically, it realizes how the great prosperity that had characterized this branch of the economy in previous decades was severely affected by theater closures, production stoppages, and changing distribution plans. This track will then analyze how primarily film exhibitors and production companies responded to the difficulties introduced by the pandemic in the regular course of the market. We will then focus mainly on the growth of streaming services experienced during the lockdowns, showing how this has in different respects produced both positive and negative effects. In the last chapter in particular, an attempt is made to take a glimpse into the future, while always keeping in mind the need to come to terms with a time of transition.
