Un caso studio di demografia storica: la popolazione di Taggia tra 1583-1837

Abstract

Lo studio qui esposto tratta della popolazione del borgo ligure di Taggia, osservando l’andamento delle nascite, dei decessi e il Saldo naturale grazie al materiale rinvenuto nell’archivio parrocchiale della medesima cittadina. Qui vennero registrati i battesimi e i decessi dal 1583 al 1837. I dati raccolti saranno messi a confronto coi maggiori eventi che colpirono direttamente la cittadina o la Liguria, l’Italia o l’Europa Occidentale, come una macchina fotografica che mette a fuoco un dettaglio e poi l’intero panorama e viceversa. Con ottica Microstorica, la ricerca mira a una prospettiva futura dove i dati raccolti tornino utili per ricerche di natura simile. L’intero lavoro è reso completo con diversi grafici e tabelle, nonché da due capitoli introduttivi; nel primo si analizzeranno i tipi di fonti per lo studio demografico dell’Età Moderna, mentre nel secondo si ripercorreranno i maggiori eventi dal XVI secolo fino al XIX secolo, sempre passando dal particolare (Taggia) al generale (resto d’Europa). La “patria dei fratelli Ruffini” ha dimostrato come spesso sia stata legata ai maggiori eventi Europei, con chiare flessioni demografiche adiacenti ad alcuni eventi nefasti; emerge tuttavia anche un certo distacco, ignorando determinati eventi o venendone influenzata in maniera decisamente minore rispetto anche alla sola Liguria di Ponente. Il borgo, evidentemente, era una comunità prospera economicamente che dava diverse opportunità legate alle colture agricole (come vite e olio) e al commercio, tali da permettere tale distaccamento. Taggia infine, in particolari e limitate circostanze, ci lascia dei misteri su cosa mai possa essere successo per generare determinate flessioni in momenti relativamente tranquilli per il “resto del mondo”.

The study that is shown here talks about the population of the Ligurian hamlet of Taggia, by observing the trend of births, of deceases and the Natural Dynamic thanks to the material found in the archive of the parish church in same town. Here, it was signed baptisms and deceases from 1583 to 1837. The collected datums will be compare to major events that struke the town directly or Liguria, Italy or the Western Europe, like a camera that focuses on a detail and then the entire view and vice versa. In terms on Microhistory, the research points to a future prospective where the collected datas find them useful to similar researches. All the workflow is completed by different graphics, schedules and, furthermore, two opening chapters; in the first one we will analyze the source types for the demographic study of the Modern Age, meanwhile in the second one we will retrace the major events from XVI to XIX century, passing from the detail (Taggia) to general (the rest of the Europe). The “Ruffini brothers’ homeland” has proved how it was sometimes linked by the major European events, with clear demographic bendings close to some harmful events; meanwhile a certain detachment emerges, ignoring specified events or being influenced in a much smaller way than only the western Liguria. The town was clearly an economically prosperous community that gave different opportunities linked to agricoltural (like grapevines and oil) and to commerce, such as to allow this kind of partition. Finally, Taggia, in particular and limited cimcurstances, leaves us some mysteries about what it could be happened to generate certain bendings in some relatively quiet moments for “the rest of the world”.
