Il "De Bellum Civile et Gallicum" di Giacomo Curlo

Abstract

Il mio elaborato tratta principalmente la figura di Giacomo Curlo e la sua opera “De Bellum Civile et Gallicum”. Ho effettuato una divisione in tre capitoli: nel primo ho svolto dei collegamenti tra il Curlo e il contesto storico, soprattutto in riferimento al XV secolo nella città di Genova, descrivendo la nascita e lo sviluppo del Banco di San Giorgio, la cancelleria e il notariato, la diffusione della corrente umanistica, i rapporti tra genovesi e catalani, la diplomazia, il Doge e le fazioni cittadine ed infine Genova tra la Francia e Milano nel periodo che va dal 1458 al 1494. Nel secondo capitolo mi sono concentrata sulla vita di Giacomo, raccontando le poche e confuse notizie sulle sue origini, il problema della presenza di due figure omonime che svolgevano compiti diversi, uno il notaio cancelliere e l’altra l’umanista e copista ed i suoi spostamenti presso varie città italiane, fino al soggiorno a Napoli presso il Re Alfonso d’Aragona. Per concludere, nel terzo ed ultimo capitolo ho descritto la sua opera “De Bellum Civile et Gallicum”, illustrando la genesi dello scritto, la presenza di una copia a Berlino, narrando della guerra civile che scoppia nell’estate del 1461 a Genova contro la dominazione francese, discutendo infine delle due figure principali della vicenda: Prospero Adorno e Paolo Fregoso.

My paper mainly deals with the figure of Giacomo Curlo and his work “De Bellum Civile et Gallicum”. I have implemented a division into three chapters: in the first one I carried out some links between the Curlo and the historical context of reference, especially with reference to the XV century in the city of Genova, describing the birth and development of the Banco di San Giorgio, the chancellery and the notary, the spread of the humanistic current, the relations between the Genoese and the Catalans, diplomacy, the Doge and the city factions and finally Genova between France and Milan in the period from 1458 to 1494. In the second chapter, I concentrated on Giacomo’s life, recounting the few and confused information on his origins, the problem of the presence of two homonymous figures who performed different tasks, one the notary and chancellor and the other, the humanist and copyist and his revolutions in various Italian cities, up to stay in Naples at King Alfonso of Aragon’s place. To conclude, in the third and final chapter I describe his work "De Bellum Civile et Gallicum", illustrating the genesis of the writing, the presence of a copy in Berlin, narrating the civil war that broke out in the summer of 1461 in Genoa against the domination French, finally discussing the two main figures of the story: Prospero Adorno and Paolo Fregoso.
