Il ruolo del calcio nello sviluppo delle diverse identità etniche e nazionali nei territori dell’ex Jugoslavija

Abstract

Parlare dell’ex Jugoslavija non è mai cosa facile, specialmente perché molte delle dinamiche e degli attriti emersi a partire dalla morte di Tito risultano, purtroppo, ancora attuali. Per questo, è fondamentale conoscere innanzitutto la storia balcanica, quantomeno dagli inizi alla tragica fine del cosiddetto “Secolo breve”, in modo da poter studiare e analizzare con oggettività e neutralità le vicende che hanno coinvolto le ormai ex repubbliche jugoslave. Al termine di questa prima infarinatura storica, la tesi si concentrerà sulla nascita e sullo sviluppo di una differente identità etnica in ciascuna delle entità territoriali e nazionali sopracitate, evidenziando il ruolo cruciale del calcio in questo processo tanto interessante quanto complesso. A tal proposito, sarà importante ripercorrere le stagioni della Prva Liga Jugoslavije dal 1923 al 1992, comprendendo come lo sport e il tifo siano riusciti a estrinsecare, e spesso ad estremizzare, gli ambivalenti rapporti tra le diverse componenti etniche che il solo Maresciallo riuscì a far coesistere e convivere fino alla sua scomparsa. Dal predominio sul campo delle formazioni serbe alla loro infinita contrapposizione con le rivali croate, passando attraverso gli storici trionfi di Sarajevo, Željezničar, Mostar e Velež nella tartassata Bosna i Hercegovina, sarà infatti possibile tracciare un fil rouge tra i principali eventi storici e calcistici dell’ex Jugoslavija nel corso del Novecento, dimostrando quanto e come il calcio sia stato e continui ad essere molto più di uno sport nell’affascinante mondo balcanico. Al termine di questa attenta analisi storica ed antropologica, il focus si sposterà sulla successiva evoluzione della questione identitaria ed etnica all’interno delle nuove realtà territoriali nate progressivamente a partire dal 1991, dedicando infine l’ultimo capitolo ai principali protagonisti del giornalismo jugoslavo e internazionale durante gli anni più bui della Repubblica titoista.

The Yugoslav issue is now more relevant than ever, especially because of the dynamics and frictions that emerged since Tito's death. Therefore, it is essential to know first of all the Balkan history from the beginning to the end of the so-called "short century" to impartially study and analyze the events that have involved former Yugoslav republics. After this short introductory historical framework, the thesis will focus on the birth and development of a different ethnic identity in each of the national entities mentioned above to highlight the crucial role of football in this both interesting and complex process. For this purpose, it is useful to retrace the seasons of the Prva Liga Yugoslavije from 1923 to 1992, to understand how sport and cheer expressed, sometimes in extreme ways, the dual relationship between various ethnic components that were able to coexist only under Tito, until his disappearance. The study on the Serbian clubs' dominance on the field, their never ending contrast with the Croatian rivals and the historic triumphs of Sarajevo, Željezničar, Mostar and Velež in Bosnia-Herzegovina will trace a common thread between the main historical events of ex Yugoslavia and football during the twentieth century. The final aim of this thesis is to prove how football has been much more than a sport in the fascinating Balkan world and it still is. At the end of this careful historical and anthropological analysis, the focus will shift on the subsequent evolution of the identity and ethnic issue since 1991, whereas the last chapter will focus on the main actors of Yugoslav and international journalism during the darkest years of the Tito's Republic.
