Traduzione e commento traduttologico del fumetto "Leonard Cohen, sur un fil" di Philippe Girard.

Abstract

L’obiettivo della presente Tesi di laurea magistrale è quello di realizzare una proposta di traduzione inedita, in lingua italiana, del fumetto "Leonard Cohen, sur un fil" di Philippe Girard, pubblicato a marzo 2021 da Casterman. Il testo in questione ripercorre la vita del cantautore canadese Leonard Cohen, evidenziando le sfaccettature della sua personalità e mettendo in risalto gli eventi e gli incontri che hanno segnato la sua vita privata e professionale. Il fumetto parte dal giorno della morte del cantautore e si articola in una serie di flashback. Tale lavoro offre molti spunti per riflettere sulla varietà di francese parlata in Canada, in Québec, per analizzare la duplicità linguistica di un Paese in cui coesistono parlanti anglofoni e parlanti francofoni e per mettersi alla prova con la presenza di altre lingue straniere. Inoltre, anche la struttura e le caratteristiche peculiari del medium oggetto di interesse sono una sfida dal punto di visto traduttivo e devono essere rispettate per non alterare l’efficacia del testo. L’elaborato è suddiviso in tre capitoli. Il primo capitolo offre un’ampia introduzione al testo di partenza, alla biografia del protagonista e alle principali difficoltà traduttive riscontrate. A seguire, il secondo capitolo contiene esclusivamente la proposta di traduzione in italiano del testo integrale. Infine, nel terzo e ultimo capitolo si trova un ampio commento traduttologico che affianca la traduzione e verte su vari punti: problemi lessicali, strategie adottate per risolvere i problemi traduttivi, problemi di sintassi, onomatopee, riferimenti extratestuali, presenza di lingue straniere e metalinguaggio. Sempre nello stesso capitolo, viene offerta una riflessione su una possibile traduzione del titolo del testo di partenza. Successivamente, è presente un’appendice contenete i testi delle canzoni di Leonard Cohen che ricorrono all’intero dell’intero fumetto. Il lavoro termina con la bibliografia e la sistografia.

The aim of this Master's dissertation is to produce a translation proposal into Italian of the comic "Leonard Cohen, sur un fil" by Philippe Girard, published in March 2021 by Casterman. The text retraces the life of Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, highlighting the facets of his personality and narrating the events and encounters that marked his private and professional life. The comic strip starts from the day of the singer-songwriter's death and is articulated in a series of flashbacks. This work offers many cues to reflect on the variety of French spoken in Canada, in Québec, to analyse the linguistic duplicity of a country in which Anglophone and Francophone speakers coexist, and to challenge the presence of other foreign languages. Moreover, the structure and the peculiar characteristics of the medium are also a challenge from a translation point of view and must be respected in order not to alter the effectiveness of the text. The dissertation is divided into three chapters. The first chapter offers an extensive introduction to the source text, the biography of the protagonist, and the main translation difficulties encountered. Following this, the second chapter contains only the proposed translation of the full text into Italian. Finally, in the third and last chapter, there is an extensive commentary that accompanies the translation and focuses on various points: lexical problems, strategies adopted to solve the translation problems, syntax problems, onomatopoeias, extratextual references, presence of foreign languages and metalanguage. This is followed, in the same chapter, by a reflection on a possible translation of the title of the source text. Next, there is an appendix containing the texts of Leonard Cohen's songs that recur throughout the entire comic strip and to which reference is continually made indirectly. The work concludes with the bibliographical and sitographical references consulted during the drafting phase.
