Anastasija Nikolaevna Romanova tra storia e trasfigurazione simbolica

Abstract

La tesi dal titolo “Anastasija Nikolaevna Romanova tra storia e trasfigurazione simbolica” ha tre obiettivi. Il primo è quello di esaminare la figura storica di Anastasija Nikolaevna Romanova, ricostruendo la sua vera vicenda, la sua personalità e il suo punto di vista su uno dei periodi più oscuri della storia mondiale attraverso alcuni documenti custoditi nel GARF, ipotizzando quali potessero essere i contenuti e lo stile dei suoi diari, andati perduti. In base a tale materiale si è supposto che la granduchessa fosse una normale adolescente che stava crescendo per caso in circostanze insolite e che avesse sviluppato una forte personalità perché, essendo la meno importante dei cinque bambini imperiali secondo i principi ereditari, si era concentrata sull’affermazione della propria individualità. È stato poi necessario inquadrare i tempi e i luoghi in cui si ritrovò a vivere Anastasija, attraverso il resoconto della situazione dell’Impero russo dalla seconda metà dell’Ottocento fino ai terribili fatti del 1918. Il secondo obiettivo è quello di rivalutare il personaggio storico di Franziska Schanzkowska, dimostrando che senza la sua rivendicazione il ricordo della vera Anastasia sarebbe inevitabilmente finito nell’oblio e che, viceversa, senza la granduchessa la pretendente non sarebbe mai diventata Anna Anderson e non avrebbe mai dato vita alla leggenda che lei stessa incarnò. A tale scopo è stato necessario ripercorrere la vita di Anna. Infine, la tesi ha lo scopo di mostrare il grande ruolo che ebbero e continuano ad avere i media nella diffusione e nella persistenza della leggenda di Anastasija Romanov attraverso l’analisi di cinque libri e di sei film e del modo in cui cambiarono col tempo la rappresentazione della granduchessa e la sua funzione narrativa. Da ciò è emerso che Anastasia e Anna divennero l’incarnazione e la metafora dei messaggi moderni e contemporanei di vari scrittori e registi.

The thesis titled “Anastasija Nikolaevna Romanova between history and symbolic transfiguration” has three objectives. First, the historical figure of Anastasija Nikolaevna Romanova is examined by reconstructing her real personal circumstances, her personality, and her point of view on one of the darkest periods in world history. This is achieved by focusing on some documents kept in the GARF and by hypothesizing what the contents and style of her lost diaries could be. On the basis of this evidence, it is assumed that the Grand Duchess was an ordinary teenager growing up by chance under unusual circumstances, and that she developed a strong personality because, being the least important of five imperial children according to hereditary principles, she focused on the affirmation of her own individuality. To contextualize the times and places in which Anastasija found herself living, an account of the situation of the Russian Empire is provided, from the second half of the 19th century to the terrible events of 1918. The second objective is to re-evaluate the historical figure of Franziska Schanzkowska. It can be demonstrated that, without Franziska’s claim, the memory of the real Anastasia would have inevitably ended up in oblivion; vice versa, without the Grand Duchess, the pretender Franziska would have never become Anna Anderson nor given birth to the legend that she herself embodied. For this purpose, it was necessary to retrace Anna's life. Lastly, the thesis shows the great role that the media had and continue to have in the diffusion and persistence of the legend of Anastasija Romanov. Through the analysis of five books and six films, the way in which the representation of the Grand Duchess and her narrative function changed over time is analyzed. From this it has emerged that both Anastasia and Anna became the embodiment and the metaphor of the modern and contemporary messages of various writers and directors.
