La Val Polcevera in armi, le lettere di Gian Vincenzo Imperiale durante la Guerra con il Duca di Savoia (1625-1631)

Abstract

Lo studio, sulla Guerra per il feudo di Zuccarello (1625-1631), analizza come l'invasione franco-piemontese facesse parte di una più vasta strategia di ostilità contro la casa degli Asburgo, di come la Repubblica di Genova costituisse un importante cardine nella politica imperiale spagnola, e come questa guerra vada inserita in quel contesto di conflitto generalizzato europeo che fu la Guerra dei Trent'anni (1618-1648). Vengono poi esaminate le lettere scritte dai comandanti e dal Senato della Repubblica durante le prime fasi dell'invasione, in particolare quelle di Gian Vincenzo Imperiale, Commissario della Val Polcevera dal 4 marzo al 10 aprile 1625. Durante l'esame di queste lettere viene fatta un'analisi sui percorsi dell'invasione, sulle carenze dell'apparato militare genovese, e su come, nonostante questi problemi e le prime iniziali disfatte, la Repubblica sia riuscita ad arrestare l'avanzata franco-piemontese.

The study, on the War for the fief of Zuccarello (1625-1631), analyze how the french-savoyard invasion was part of a larger plan of hostility against the house of Habsburgs, how the Republic of Genoa was an important piece in the spanish imperial strategy, and how this war needs to be put in the context of the generalized european conflict that was the Thiry Years War (1618-1648). in regards of that are taken into exam the writings of the commanders and the Senate of the Republic during the first stages of the invasion, particulary the ones written by Gian Vincenzo Imperiale, Commissioner of the Val Polcevera from the 4th of march until the 10th of april 1625. During the examination of theese writings an analysis will be made on the paths of the invasion, the shortcoming of the Genoese military apparatus, and how, despite all theese problems and the initial defeats, the Republic managed to stop the french-savoyard advance.
