Sulle tracce del mito di Venezia. Dalle origini al venetismo contemporaneo

Abstract

Il “mito di Venezia”, ovvero l’immagine mitizzata della Serenissima, ha una lunga storia alle spalle, che parte dal medioevo e arriva fino all’età contemporanea, sopravvivendo indenne alla caduta della Repubblica. Questo lavoro nasce da una domanda: il mito di Venezia cui si rifà il “venetismo”, ossia l’indipendentismo-autonomismo veneto nato negli anni ‘70, è il medesimo mito elaborato dalla Serenissima, tramandato attraverso i secoli, oppure è una creazione ex novo? Pertanto, l’obiettivo della presente analisi è quello di ricostruire per sommi capi la tradizione del mito di Venezia, dal punto di vista storico e letterario, così da poterlo confrontare con il mito contemporaneo e valutarne le differenze e le somiglianze.

The “myth of Venice”, or the mythicized image of the Serenissima, has a long history behind it, which starts from the Middle Ages and reaches the Late Modern Period and Contemporary History, surviving the fall of the Republic. Nowadays the "Venetismo", that is the Venetian independence-autonomy movement born in the 70s, has built many of its claims by resorting to a particular type of myth of Venice. This work stems from a question: is the myth of Venice to which the Venetismo refers the same myth elaborated by the Serenissima, handed down through the centuries, or is it a new myth? Therefore, the goal of this analysis is to reconstruct in summary the tradition of the myth of Venice, from a historical and literary point of view, in order to compare it with the contemporary myth and evaluate their differences and similarities.
