Sostenibilità ambientale e turismo: il caso del Trentino

Abstract

La presente tesi ha l’obiettivo di approfondire il tema della sostenibilità ambientale in ambito turistico, analizzando il caso particolare della Provincia Autonoma di Trento, un territorio con una forte vocazione al turismo sostenibile, ed investigando la posizione della comunità locale in materia. Nel primo capitolo verrà preso in esame il fenomeno turistico trentino, evidenziando la sua primaria importanza nello sviluppo locale, con una presentazione delle politiche provinciali, delle principali risorse territoriali, dell’evoluzione del movimento turistico nel corso degli anni e un’analisi dei punti di forza e di debolezza del settore. Il secondo capitolo prende in esame i dispositivi di salvaguardia ambientale, presentando il ricco sistema di aree protette trentine, che tutela ben il 30% del territorio provinciale grazie anche all’innovativa Legge Provinciale 11/07. Il terzo capitolo si sviluppa sull’interdipendenza fra i due temi esaminati nelle due parti precedenti, coniugando i concetti di turismo e sostenibilità ambientale; viene analizzata l’evoluzione del turismo sostenibile, con un focus specifico sul percorso della Provincia Autonoma di Trento in materia, che ha visto come protagonisti il progetto TurNat (Turismo e Natura) e la Carta Europea del Turismo Sostenibile. L’ultimo capitolo integra il tema trattato con un’esposizione della ricerca sul campo, condotta in due momenti distinti: una prima parte svoltasi attraverso la somministrazione di questionari ai residenti trentini, mentre la seconda parte attraverso brevi interviste agli operatori economici in provincia. Data l’importanza conferita alla partecipazione ed alla sensibilizzazione di tutti i presenti sul territorio trentino, la ricerca intendeva cogliere fino a che punto i concetti della sostenibilità ambientale – anche integrati in ambito turistico – fossero interiorizzati dalla comunità locale.

This thesis aims to investigate the theme of environmental sustainability in the tourism sector, analy-zing the particular case of the Autonomous Province of Trento, an area with a strong vocation for sustainable tourism, and investigating the position of the local community on the subject. The first chapter will examine the tourism phenomenon in Trentino, highlighting its primary importance for the local development, with a presentation of the provincial policies on the field, of the main territo-rial resources, of the evolution of the tourist movement over the years and an analysis of the streng-ths and the weaknesses of the sector. The second chapter will examine the environmental protection devices, presenting the rich system of Trentino protected areas, which safeguards the 30% of the provincial territory, thanks also to the innovative Provincial Law 11/07. The third chapter develops on the interdependence between the two themes examined in the two previous sections, combining the concepts of tourism and environmental sustainability; the evolution of sustainable tourism is ana-lyzed with a specific focus on the path of the Autonomous Province of Trento on the subject, which has identified the TurNat project (Tourism and Nature) and the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism as protagonists. The last chapter integrates the topic with an exposition of the field research, conducted in two distinct moments: the first part held through the administration of questionnaires to Trentino residents, while the second one through short interviews with economic operators in the province. Given the importance bestowed upon the participation and the awareness-raising of all those in Trentino, the research aimed to understand the extent to which the concepts of environmen-tal sustainability - also integrated in the tourism sector - were internalized by the local community.
