Traduzione, analisi e commento di brani tratti da The Reddening di A. L. G. Nevill

Abstract

Il presente studio consiste nella traduzione di brani scelti del romanzo folk horror The Reddening (2018), dell’autore Adam L. G. Nevill. I brani si concentrano su entrambe le protagoniste della vicenda, Katrine e Helene, offrendo al lettore due prospettive diverse, riguardo ai fatti narrati, che andranno poi a intrecciarsi. Successivamente a un’esposizione delle basi teoriche del processo traduttivo e a una breve introduzione al genere e all’autore stesso, si procederà all’individuazione e all’analisi dei principali problemi, ordinati in base all’area di interesse, emersi in sede di traduzione, riflettendo sulle modalità con cui li si è affrontati nel processo di traslazione linguistica e su eventuali limiti e margini di miglioramento del testo di arrivo proposto. Il capitolo conclusivo riassumerà quanto esposto nelle sezioni precedenti, offrendo gli strumenti per comprendere al meglio un lavoro traduttivo specifico nell’ambito del sotto-genere folk horror, delineandone le necessità principali e le sfide maggiori.

The present study consists of the translation of selected excerpts from the folk horror novel The Reddening (2018), by the British author Adam L. G. Nevill. The excerpts focus on both protagonists of the story, Katrine and Helene, providing the reader with two different and intertwined perspectives on the events narrated. The text will provide a theoretical outline for the translation process and a brief introduction to the genre and the author himself. Then, it will identify and analyse the main issues that arose in delivering the target text, addressing them according to the area of interest and offering some insight into how they have been addressed and into possible ways of further improving the target text at hand. The final chapter will summarise what has been said in the previous sections, offering the tools to better understand a translation job specific to the folk horror sub-genre, outlining its main needs and major challenges.
