Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction requires a process that guides the athlete from the recovery of function to a return to the demands of sports performance. This thesis examines post-ACL reconstruction reconditioning, with particular reference to football players, and proposes possible progression from gym-based training to on-field activities. The choice of this topic stems from the interest developed during the degree programme in Sports Science and from internship experiences in the fields of reconditioning, performance and injury prevention in football. The work was developed through an analysis of scientific literature concerning the recovery of strength and neuromuscular control, running, dynamic abilities and the return to sport-specific demands. Based on the evidence analysed, an applied progression was developed, characterised by a gradual increase in the intensity, complexity and specificity of training stimuli. The findings highlight the importance of an individualised and criteria-based approach, in which return to sporting activity is considered a progressive process from Return to Participation to Return to Sport and, ultimately, Return to Performance.en_UK
