| it_IT |
| dc.description.abstract | Pallapugno is a traditional sport characterized by alternating short, high-intensity actions requiring intermittent endurance, explosive strength, and speed. However, the physical characteristics of its athletes in relation to playing position and competitive level remain poorly investigated in the scientific literature.
The aim of this study was to analyze the physical characteristics and cardiovascular responses of pallapugno players competing at different levels and in different playing positions, while also examining correlations among physical performance tests.
The sample consisted of 12 athletes, equally distributed across Serie A, Serie B, and Serie C1, representing four playing positions: battitore (server), spalla (support player), terzino al muro (wall-side defender), and terzino al largo (wide defender). Physical assessment included the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test 20-20, the Sargent vertical jump test, a seated 3 kg medicine ball throw, and 10 m and 30 m sprint tests. Heart rate was also monitored during 15 games of friendly matches. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation coefficient, with statistical significance set at p ≤ 0.05.
The results showed descriptive differences across competitive levels and playing positions. Serie A athletes generally achieved better performances, while battitori displayed higher intermittent endurance and upper-body strength values. Significant negative correlations were found between Sargent test performance and 10 m sprint time (r = −0.709; p = 0.010) and 30 m sprint time (r = −0.784; p = 0.003). A strong positive correlation was also observed between 10 m and 30 m sprint times (r = 0.912; p = 0.001).
In conclusion, these findings suggest the potential value of individualized physical conditioning based on athletes' characteristics and playing positions. However, the small sample size requires cautious interpretation, and further research involving larger samples is needed. | en_UK |
