| it_IT |
| dc.description.abstract | Ensuring rigorous quality control (QC) in MRI equipment is crucial to prevent misdiagnoses. In collaboration with ASG Superconductors S.p.A., this thesis develops an automated framework to classify artifact severity in phantom MRI images. The goal is to automate the detection of instrumental artifacts, repetitive double edges and periodic banding from phase alterations, eliminating subjective manual inspection. The dataset comprises 2306 DICOM scans across four ordinal quality classes (0 to 3), evaluated against an expert consensus ground truth.Raw 12-bit images underwent 8-bit quantization and morphological ROI segmentation to isolate peripheral boundaries. Multidomain features(GLCM textures, Sobel spatial gradients, and 2D-FFT frequencies) were extracted and fed into a Random Forest classifier. Concurrently, an end-to-end Deep Learning model (ResNet-18) was trained on a shared test set (N=462). Both models eliminated critical false negatives (Class 0 to 3). However, ResNet-18 achieved superior results: 74% Accuracy and an exceptional Quadratic Weighted Kappa (QWK) of 0.85, outperforming Random Forest (67% accuracy, 0.79 QWK). Statistical superiority was confirmed via McNemar's test (Pvalue < 0.05) and paired bootstrap analysis (Delta QWK = +0.07, 95% CI [0.0260, 0.1145]).Finally, deployment at ASG Superconductors S.p.A. validated its effectiveness in monitoring pre- and post-calibration shifts in only few minutes. | en_UK |
