This thesis project focuses on the analysis and optimization of operational flows within a
maritime container terminal, with an emphasis on container handling dynamics from the
quay to the yard and up to the rail area, in both directions. The efficiency of port operations
represents a critical factor for the competitiveness of the global supply chain, driving the
need for this analysis to identify and resolve bottlenecks that cause delays and extend the
dwell times of ships and trains. To address this objective, a discrete-event simulation
model was developed using the AnyLogic software, reproducing the inbound and outbound
flows and container handling across the port node. The research is structured around the
implementation of various operational scenarios with varying input volumes. The results
obtained allow for a comparison of transit times across both intermodal flow directions and
highlight how an increase in workload impacts processing times and equipment utilization
levels, identifying the critical points of the system.
