| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation investigates the role of internal communication in corporate rebranding processes, with specific reference to organisations that have grown through successive acquisitions. Starting from the observation that such firms suffer from an identity fragmentation produced by external growth, the study asks through which human resource management mechanisms internal communication can foster the alignment between desired and lived identity during a rebranding. The choice of topic stems from the limited attention that the literature has devoted to the internal dimension of rebranding, traditionally framed in aesthetic and marketing terms. Methodologically, a narrative literature review documented according to criteria inspired by the PRISMA protocol is combined with a single case study, the rebranding of Italmatch Chemicals Group. The case analysis suggests that internal communication may foster identity alignment not because it conveys the new brand, but because it activates a chain of HR mechanisms — sensemaking, identification, engagement and brand-supporting
behaviours — and that the unification of the communicated identity precedes that of the underlying organisational systems.
