This research analyses tourism dynamics in the Liguria Region, with particular attention to the imbalance between coastal areas and the hinterland and to regional strategies aimed at rebalancing tourist flows. The study seeks to answer the following research question: how does the Liguria Region seek to rebalance tourist flows concentrated along the coast through the diversification of the tourism offer and the digitalisation of tourism governance? The study combines a theoretical analysis of the evolution of tourism, Destination Management and the digitalisation of destinations with an analysis of the Ligurian case. The methodology is based on the consultation of academic books and documents available through the university library, the review of theoretical concepts addressed during the university curriculum, and the analysis of scientific articles dealing with overtourism, touristification, territorialisation, heritage-making, the hierarchical organisation of tourism space and the digitalisation of tourism governance. The analysis is further supported by statistical data and documentation concerning the history and development of tourism in Liguria. The results highlight a persistent concentration of tourist flows along the coast. Although the hinterland has experienced a higher growth in tourist overnight stays than coastal areas, this increase has not yet been sufficient to significantly modify the overall distribution of tourist flows. The case of the Cinque Terre also demonstrates a marked spatial and temporal concentration, with tourist volumes particularly high in relation to the resident population and resulting pressures on local spaces, services and infrastructure. The research therefore shows how the Liguria Region is orienting its strategies towards the diversification of the tourism offer, the enhancement of the hinterland and the integration of digital tools into destination governance. However, the persistence of the coast’s strong tourism attracen_UK
